Question 996362: the heights (in inches) of eight tomato plants are:
36,45,52,40,38,41,50 and 48
find the mean, median, and mode(s) of the tomato plant heights
Answer by farohw(175) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Mean is the average: (add then divide the total by the number of values in the set, in this case 8 tomato plants)
36+45+52+40+38+41+50+48 = 350/8 can be reduced to 175/4 = 43.75.
Median is the range: organize the dataset in ascending order then find the "middle number or middle pair" depending on the number of values in the given set,
36, 38, 40, 41, 45, 48, 50, 52 has 8 different values in the set.
Since 8 is an even number we must find the median based on the middle pair of numbers. The median is 41 + 45 = 86/2 = 43.
Mode is the number that appears most often in the set. Since there are no repeats there is no mode.
