You can put this solution on YOUR website!

let pennies be p and dimes d
if a girl has 5 more than twice as many pennies as she has dimes, then we have
p=2d%2B5.....eq.1
if altogether she has $3.05, we have
0.01p%2B0.10d=3.05.....substitute 2d%2B5 for p from eq.1
0.01%282d%2B5%29%2B0.10d=3.05........solve for d
0.02d%2B0.05%2B0.10d=3.05
0.12d=3.05-0.05
0.12d=3
d=3%2F0.12
d=300%2F12
d=25
now find the number of pennies
p=2d%2B5.....eq.1
p=2%2A25%2B5
p=55
How many coins does she have?
she have 80 coins, 25 dimes and 55 pennies

A girl has 5 more than twice as many pennies as she has dimes. Altogether she has $3.05. How many coins does she have?
------
Quantity:: d = 2p+5
Value:: p + 10d = 305 cents
-----
Substitute for "d" and solve for "p"::
p + 10(2p+5) = 305
21p + 50 = 305
21p - 255
-----
p = not a whole number
