You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
1) For a Saturday matinee, adult tickets cost $6.50 and kids under 12 pay only $5.00. If 110 tickets are sold for a total of $625, how many of the tickets were adult tickets
and how many were sold to kids under 12?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let A be the number of adult tickets sold, and C be the number of children tickets sold.
Then you have the system of two equations
.
Do you understand how this system was obtained? Why the system does model the problem?
If YES, then next step is to solve the system.
For it, express A from the first equation, A = 110 - C, and substitute it into the second equation.
Then you get the single equation for the unknown C, which you easily can solve.
When you will get the value of C, distract it from 110 to get the solution for A.
Is it clear to you?
In the section "Comments from student" please write me whether you were able to complete the solution.
Thank you.
Good luck.
