 Step 1:  Graph the line
  .  Since the original inequality was "strictly less than", use a dashed line to make this graph indicating that point on the line are NOT included in the solution set of the inequality. 
 Step 2:  Select any point on the coordinate plane that is NOT on the line you just graphed.  Generally, (0,0) is a good choice for this step, except when, as in this case, the line passes through the origin.  I would choose something like (1,1) in this situation.  But any point you would like to use will work so long as it is not on the line.
 
 Step 3:  Substitute the coordinates of the point you selected in step 2 for
  and  in the original inequality.  If you create a true statement, then shade the half-plane on the side of the line that includes the point selected.  Otherwise, shade the other side of the line.
