Question 990056: In four years time, father will be three times as old as his son. Six years ago, he was 7 times as old as his son. What is their present ages?
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the age of father be x and son be y.
x+4=3(y+4)=3y+12
x+4=3y+12
x-3y=8----(1)
x-6=7(y-6)=7y-42
x-6=7y-42
x-7y=-36----(2)
Solving (1) & (2)
From (1) x=8+3y,substitute in (2)
8+3y-7y=-36
-4y=-44
y=44/4=11
y=11
x=8+3*11=8+33=41=>x=41 yrs
So the father age is 41 years and son age is 11 years.
