You can put this solution on YOUR website!
k^2 -16k +100 = k^2 -4k +85
subtract k^2 from both sides of =
-16k +100 = -4k +85
add 16k to both sides of =
100 = 12k +85
subtract 85 from both sides of =
15 = 12k
divide both sides of = by 12
k = 15 / 12 = 5 / 4 = 1.25
************************************
check answer by substituting for k in original equation
(1.25)^2 - 16(1.25) + 100 = (1.25)^2 -4(1.25) + 85
−18.4375 +100 = −3.4375 +85
81.5625 = 81.5625
our answer checks
