Question 989315: There are 29 people in a room. Of these, 11 speak French, 24 speak English, and 3 speak neither French nor English. How many people in the room speak both French and English? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
Since 3 speak neither, 26 speak either or both. Since 11 plus 24 is 35 and 35 is 9 greater than 26, 9 is the number that is counted twice when you add 11 and 24, hence 9 is the number that speak both.
