Question 988751: multiply and simplify your answer completely.
1. (x + 2)(x2 − 2x + 5) My answer: x^3-x+10
2.(x2 + 6x + 7)(2x − 2) My answer: x+14x-14 Found 2 solutions by josgarithmetic, MathTherapy:Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You should know and use Distributive Property, but when the number of terms in each factor go beyond two each, the use of the property directly becomes very lengthy. You can use a lattice method for ease.
Your second exercise looks wrong, so I will do just that one (not that your first exercise is correct, but guess is that it is not).
Top row is the terms of one factor;
Left column is the terms of the other factor.
x^2 6x 7
2x 2x^3 12x^2 14x
-2 -2x^2 -12x -14
The cells of the table's interior are each term of the product, BEFORE simplification. Next is time to combine like-terms
Form the sum of the terms shown:
and notice like terms are arranged in proximity to each other in descending degree for convenience (which commutative property allows).
Combining the like-terms: .
Think carefully about that process! Regular long multiplication as you learned in elementary and intermediate high school works the same way.

2.(x2 + 6x + 7)(2x − 2) My answer: x+14x-14
For these, it's best to use a VERTICAL alignment 1.
