You can put this solution on YOUR website!

A 14m by 24m rectangular garden is to have a gravel path of uniform width bordering it. How wide is the path if the total area covered by the garden and path 600m squared. Help Please!!!
Area of the rectangular garden = A = 14x24 = 336 sq.m
Area of the rectangular garden including gravel path = 600sq.m
Area of the gravel path = 600-336 = 264 sq.m
if x is the length of the path then its width will be x+10

therefore x(x+10) = 264
x^2+10x-264 = 0
x^2+22x-12x-264=0
x(x+22)-12(x+22)= 0
(x+22)(x-12) = 0
x-12 = 0
x = 12
length of the path = 12 m and its width is (12+4) = 16 m
