Question 987060: What is the approximate rate of change of the linear function?
Year 1950 1960 1970 1980 1990 2000
Pop. of country A 8.5 10.7 13.1 14.9 14.5 22.6
Pop. of country B 7.5 9.1 10.9 12.5 14.2 15.6

You can put this solution on YOUR website! With "approximate" I will not use linear regression.
For each, look at the difference between adjacent ones and the overall difference.
A has 2.2, 2.4,1.8,-0.4,8.1
Overall A is 14.1/5=2.82 per decade, millions, thousands whatever.
B:1.6,1.8,1.6,1.7,1.4
Overall, it is 8.1/5=1.62 per decade.
These are approximates, but B has much less variability than A.
Usually with approximations, the last minus the first divided by the number is one of the best ways to get an idea of the slope.
