You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
5(y-4)=7(2y+1) Multiply.
5y-20=14y+7 Subtract 5y from each side.
-20=9y+7 Subtract 7 from each side.
-27=9y Divide each side by 9.
-3=y

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
+5%2A%28+y-5+%29+=+7%2A%28+2y+%2B1+%29+
The goal is to get the terms involving +y+
on one side of the equation
-------------------------
You can use the distributive property like this:
+5y+-+25+=+14y+%2B+7+
---------------------
Subtrace +5y+ from both sides
+-25+=+14y+-+5y+%2B+7+
+-25+=+9y+%2B+7+
-----------------------
Subtract +7+ from both sides
+-32+=+9y+
----------------
Now divide both sides by +9+
+y+=+-32%2F9+
------------------
check the solution:
+5%2A%28+y-5+%29+=+7%2A%28+2y+%2B1+%29+
+5%2A%28+%28-32%2F9+%29+-+5+%29+=+7%2A%28+2%2A%28+-32%2F9+%29+%2B1+%29+
+5%2A%28+-32%2F9+-+45%2F9+%29+=+7%2A%28+-64%2F9+%2B+9%2F9+%29+
+5%2A%28+-77%2F9+%29+=+7%2A%28+-+55%2F9+%29+
Multiply both sides by +9+
+5%2A%28+-77+%29+=+7%2A%28+-55+%29+
+-385+=+-385+
-----------------------
The check works -it's OK if you only
follow the solution and not the check-
just keep working at it
