Question 985999: Hi I need help on a problem about angles that I am stuck on. I have been trying to solve the problem for the past 30 minutes and I need help. They is a vertical angle that is congruent. One angle side is 140 degrees and the one congruent from it is (3y+2x) there is also one next to both of them that is (x+y) and it says solve for x and y and I need help. Thank you so much! Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055) (Show Source):
The two vertical angles have equal measure so the first equation is:
140 = 3y+2x
The 140° angle and the x+y angle form a linear pair, so the second equation is:
140+x+y = 180
So we need to solve this system of equations:
I won't tell you the answer but if you solve the system by
substitution, x comes out as a negative number and y is a
positive number.
