Question: There are 36 students in a class. If the results of the final exam are normally distributed with mean 85 and standard deviation 9, then how many students would you expect to receive an A grade (90% - 100%)?
Solution:
Use TI calculator or Excel to get the normal probability.
TI Calculator:
normalcdf(90,100,85,9) = 0.241467
Multiply the probability by 36.
(0.241467)(36) = 8.69 or about 9 students
