subtracting a minus is the same as adding.
-18-(-9)=-18 +9 =-9
I personally do not like the new use of + - between numbers. One adds or one subtracts. If one subtracts, there is one minus sign. If one is subtracting a negative number, then there are two minus signs, and typically I connect them and make them a plus.
