You can put this solution on YOUR website!

%281%2F4%29a-12=%285%2F4%29a%2B6 Start with the given equation

%284%29%28%281%2F4%29a-12%29=%284%29%28%285%2F4%29a%2B6%29 Multiply both sides by the LCM of 4. This will eliminate the fractions (note: if you need help with finding the LCM, check out this solver)

a-48=5a%2B24 Distribute and multiply 4 by each term on both sides. Notice how the 4 canceled out the denominators.

a=5a%2B24%2B48Add 48 to both sides

a-5a=24%2B48 Subtract 5a from both sides

-4a=24%2B48 Combine like terms on the left side

-4a=72 Combine like terms on the right side

a=%2872%29%2F%28-4%29 Divide both sides by -4 to isolate a

a=-18 Divide

--------------------------------------------------------------
Answer:
So our answer is a=-18

1/4a-12=5/4a+6 subtract 5/4a from both sides & add 12 to both sides.
1/4a-5/4a=6+12 (-5/4+1/4=-4/4)
-4/4a=18 (-4/4=-1)
-a=18
a=-18 answer.
proof
1/4*-18-12=5/4*-18+6
-18/4-12=-90/4+6
-4.5-12=-22.5+6
-16.5=-16.5
