Question 984045: A statistician wants to estimate the mean age of all college students. A random sample of 25 students indicates that the mean age is 24.6 years. Past studies showed that the standard deviation is 1.3 years and the population is normally distributed. Find a 95% confidence interval for the mean age.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
mean=24.6 sd=1.3 (known) and normally distributed. Since we know sd, use z-test
95% CI=the interval is 1.96 +/- sd/sqrt (n)
sd/sqrt (n)= 1.3/5=0.26
multiplied by 1.96=+/- 0.51
the interval is 0.51 on either side of the mean
(24.1,25.1)
