Make x the number
I take away 7 from the number
x - 7
divide the result by 5
(x - 7)/5
I get the same.answer as I take away 23 from it.
(x - 7)/5 = x - 23
common denominator = 5
x - 7 = 5(x - 23)
x - 7 = 5x - 115
Collect like terms
x - 5x = -115 + 7
-4x = -108
x = 27
Number is 27
