Question 981992: Erica bought 3 1/2 yards of fabric. If she uses 2/3 of the fabric to make a curtain, how much will she have left? If I do the math, the answer is 2 5/6.
However, the answer (according to the tester) is: 1 1/6 yard.
Do I have to convert 2/3 into yard / inches or something? Thank you for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
If she uses 2/3, she has 1/3 remaining:
%281%2F3%29%287%2F2yds%29=7%2F6yds
.
-OR-
Uses 2/3:
%282%2F3%29%287%2F2yds%29=%2814%2F6yds%29
%2821%2F6yds%29-%2814%2F6yds%29=%287%2F6yd%29
.
21%2F6yds-17%2F6yd=4%2F6yds=2%2F3yd
You used 2/3 yards, not 2/3 of the fabric.
