Start with:

tanx=sinx%2Fcosx
.
tan3x=sin3x%2Fcos3x
Use Triple Angle Formula for Sine and Triple Angle Formula for Cosine:

Triple Angle Formula for Sine:
sin3x=3+sin%28x%29-4+sin%5E3%28x%29
.
Triple Angle Formula for Cosine:
cos3x=4cos%5E3%28x%29-3cos%28x%29
.
I'm not sure how far you have to carry this to get an "acceptable" formula, but this should get you started.
