SUPPLEMENTARY ANGLES ADD UP TO 180 DEGREES. THEREFORE THESE TWO ANGLES MUST ADD UP TO 180 DEGREES THUS
5X+17X-18=180
22X=180+18
22X=198
X=198/22
X=9
5*9=45 FOR THE SMALLER ANGLE.
17*9-18=153-18=135 FOR THE LARGER ANGLE.
PROOF
45+135=180
180=180
