distributing on the left gives 8n-4=6n+5 ... subtracting 6n and adding 4 gives 2n=9

dividing by 2 gives n=9/2 or 4.5

:
Multiply what's inside the brackets:
8n - 4 = 6n + 4 + 1
:
8n - 4 = 6n + 5
:
Add 4 to both sides
8n - 4 + 4 = 6n + 5 + 4
:
8n = 6n + 9
:
Subtract 6n from both sides:
8n - 6n = 6n - 6n + 9
:
2n = 9
:
n = 9/2 or 4.5
:

Check solution, substitute 4.5 for n in the original equation:
