8times the number =8x
The difference between 8 and 8times a number=8x-8
The result is 27 more than 3times the number,
That is 8x-8=27+3x
subtract 3x from both sides
8x-3x-8=27+3x-3x
5x-8=27

5x=35
divide bothsides by 5
