Question 978945: 6 year ago Simon is twice as old as cara 4years from now his age will be 10 less twice Clara's age what are Simons and Clara's age
Answer by josmiceli(19441) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let +s+ = Simon's age now
Let +c+ = Clara's age now
--------------------------
(1) +s+-+6+=+2%2A%28+c+-+6+%29+
(2) +s+%2B+4+=+2%2A%28+c+%2B+4+%29+-+10+
-----------------------------
(1) +s+-+6+=+2c+-+12+
(1) +2c+-+s+=+6+
and
(2) +s+%2B+4+=+2c+%2B+8+-+10+
(2) +s+%2B+4+=+2c+-+2+
(2) +2c+-+s+=+6+
-----------------
I get 2 indentical equations, which is
just 1 equation, really, but I have 2
unknowns, so any +c+ and +s+
that satisfies the equation works.
+2%2A12+-+18+=+6+
So, I could say:
Clara is 12
Simon is 18
Many other ages would work, so I'm
saying there are no unique answers
--------------------
Very strange problem. I would get another
opinion on this. Good luck
