3y-7+8y=6y+8
First of all bring all the 'ys'
to the left of the equation
remembering to change the sign
if they cross the equals sign.
3y + 8y - 6y =
Now move all the numbers to the
right, remembering to change the
signs if they cross the equals sign
= 8 + 7
Now combine the two sides of the equation
3y + 8y - 6y = 8 + 7
Carry out the addition and subtraction
5y = 15
Divide both sides by 5
y = 3
