Let x=one of the house numbers
Then x+2=the other house number
Now we are told that:
x+x+2=58 subtract 2 from both sides
x+x+2-2=58-2 collect like terms
2x=56 divide both sides by 2
x=28-------------------------one of the house numbers
x+2=28+2=30------------------the other house number

58=58
