The solution should be simpler than that(repasted below this).
There are initially TWO terms of sqrt(x). Factoring the sqrt(x) should be your FIRST step. You only need to square both sides ONE time...


(This process not needed for your example):
Isolate either of the radical TERMS;
square both sides and simplify;
isolate the currently existing next radical term;
again square both sides;
continue to solve for x.
