Question 977947: What does it mean to say that a figure has an area of 29 in2?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 29 square inches. A square inch is a square with each side 1 inch.
It may also be a rectangle with the length 2 inches and the width 1/2 inch. If you could take the area and divide it up, you would fill 29 squares each with side 1 inch.
They do not have to be squares or rectangles. Indeed, states are measured in square miles, and they are very irregular with few exceptions. Any measure squared in distance is area.
