Question 977327: Need help understanding sample size determination and how to get the answer for this, dont assume I know anything cause I cant figure out the step by step solution to the problem so please tell me how you get each part of the solution. I know that 95% zscore is 1.96 but I get lost with what to do with this question. Thanks for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The formula for sample size for estimating proportions is:

where is the preliminary estimate of the actual proportion. If you don't have a preliminary estimate of the proportion, use , which is to say . is your critical value, 1.96 in this case. And is your maximum allowable error, which you want to be 0.08.

Just plug in the numbers and do the arithmetic. Always round UP to the nearest whole number.
