Question 976894: Bill has a money box full of ten cent and twenty cent pieces. If there are 50 coins in the box and they add up to $5.50, how many of each coin does he have? Answer by FrankM(1040) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! My single-variable method works well for this:
X is the number of 10 cent coins.
50-X is the number of 20 cent coins.
10X+20(50-X)= 550
10X+1000-20X = 550
-10X = -450
X = 45
45 ten cent coins $4.50
5 twenty cent coins $1.00
