Question 976510: Forces Question

A) A forklift is used to lift a very heavy box filled with physics textbooks up to a high shelf. If the box has a mass of 250 kg and the forklift is capable of lifting the box at a rate of 1.2 m/s^2, determine the force the forklift must apply.
B) If the situation described in (a) represents the maximum force the forklift can apply, determine the heaviest possible box the forklift could move.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) F=ma=%28250%29%281.2%29=300+N
b) By this logic, you could move an infinitely heavy box with a infinitesimally small acceleration since,
m=F%2Fa=300%2Fa
However you are limited by the pressure that the hydraulic pump can provide and the area of the ram that is attached to the forks. You don't have enough information to solve this problem.
