Question 975365: What is 9/8 - 1? I am not sure what to do with the 1. Found 3 solutions by Boreal, solver91311, Shana-D:Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! (9/8) -1 is (9/8)-(8/8)
8/8 is 1. I can now subtract when they have the same denominators
1/8 is the answer.
Find the lowest common denominator and then add the two fractions just as you would with the summation of any two fractions.
Notice that I said "add the two fractions" even though there is a minus sign. Forget that you ever heard the words "subtract" or "subtraction". Think of it this way and always add.

My calculator said it, I believe it, that settles it
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You can change it to 9/8 - 8/8 (because 8/8 = 1)
Then subtract the numerators and leave denominators alone:
= 1/8
