Question 975341: Shelby goes to the craft show. She spends half of the money she brought with her on a toy for her grandson.
Then she spends $10 on lunch. After lunch she caught her eye on some handmade jewelry and spent half of
what she had left on a new necklace. Then she spent $5 on the matching earrings. If she left the craft show
with $10 , how much did she have to start with?

Work backwards.

She had $10 at the end, right after she spent $5. So before she spent the $5, she had $15 which was half of what she had before she bought the necklace. Hence, before she bought the necklace she had $30. So before lunch she had $40. Which is half of what she started with, or $80.
