Question 974973: A radio tower casts a shadow 155 feet long. The angle of elevation of the sun is 52 degrees. How high is the tower? Round to hundredths. Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Sun angle is from the ground through the top of the tower.
The shadow is on the ground or adjacent. The tower is opposite.
The tangent is opposite/adjacent
opposite/155= tan 52=1.28
155*1.28=198.39 feet. It must be less than the tower, for angles greater than 45 degrees have shadows that are less than the height.
