Question 974923: The pair of points is on the graph of an inverse variation. Find the missing value.
(16,6) (8,y)
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Inverse variations are of the form x*y = k where k is some fixed number
x*y = k
16*6 = k ... plug in (x,y) = (16,6)
96 = k
k = 96
-------------------------------------------------------
x*y = k
x*y = 96
8*y = 96 ... Plug in x = 8 and solve for y
y = 96/8
y = 12
So the missing value is y = 12
