Question 974500: 22. You Explain It! Superstition: A USA Today/Gallup poll asked 1,006 adult Americans how much it would bother them to stay in a room on the 13th floor of a hotel. Interestingly, 13% said it would bother them. The margin of error was 3 percentage points with 95% confidence. Which of the following represents a reasonable interpretation of the survey results? For those not reasonable, explain the flaw.
(a) We are 95% confident that the proportion of adult Americans who would be bothered to stay in a room on the 13th floor is between 0.10 and 0.16.

It's not bad. I tend to add a lot more.
We don't know the exact proportion of Americans who would be bothered, and we never will. We are, however, 95% confident that the true proportion lies between 0.10 and 0.16. We don't say the probability is xxxx, because the true number either is in the interval (probability 1) or outside (probability 0), and that is meaningless.
Another way is to say if we did multiple samples, 95% of them would contain the parameter of interest, but we don't know what the parameter is. That is the only area I would use probability.

A USA Today/Gallup poll asked 1,006 adult Americans how much it would bother them to stay in a room on the 13th floor of a hotel.
-------------------
Some hotels don't name a 13th floor, there's 12, then 14.
That makes Floor 14 the 13th floor.
Do people not know that?

Same with seat rows on airplanes.
