Let the consecutive whole numbers be: x-1,x, and x+1

Since (x-1)+x+(x+1) = 168
------
x = 168-[(x+1)+(x+2)]
----
x = 168-x-1-x-2
3x = 165
x = 53

The numbers:
x-1 = 52
x = 53
x+1 = 54
