Question 9722: Please help me solve x+1/3 = 5 - x+2/7. I came up with 5.6, but the book says the answer is 46/5. Answer by askmemath(368) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! After 5 different combinations I finally realized the problem is to be read as
(x+1)/3 = 5 - (x+2)/7
Adding (x+2)/7 on both sides
(x+1)/3 + (x+2)/7= 5
Taking LCM and cross multiplying
7x+7 + 3x+6 = 5x21
10x+13 = 105
10x = 92
x = 45/6 (Dividing throughout by 10 and simplifying)
