Question 97090: IF you select a card from a deck and then select another card, what is the probability that a red threee is selected and a face card is selected? Found 3 solutions by checkley71, stanbon, mathslover:Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! RED THREE=2/52=.038 OR 3.8%
FACE CARD=16/52=.31 31%
COMBINED PROBABILITY IS .038*.31=.0117 OR 1.17%.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! IF you select a card from a deck and then select another card, what is the probability that a red three is selected and a face card is selected?
-----------
Prob(red three) = 2/52
Prob(face card|red three) = 12/51
---------------
Prob(red three and face card) = (2/52)(12/51) = (1/26)(12/51)= 0.00905

Did the question mean a red 3 selected followed by a face card?
The question does talks about selection of a red 3 and a face card. Since it does not specify that FIRST a red card is selected and then a face card hence there are 2 cases
Case 1
A red 3 followed by a face card.
In this case the probability is 2/52 * 12/ 51
Case 2
A face card is selected followed by a red card
in this case probabilty is 12/ 52 * 2/51
hence required probablity is
(2/52 * 12/ 51 ) + (12/ 52 * 2/51)
= 2/221 + 2/221
= .0090 + .0090
= .018
