when 2 dice are thrown,the total number of numbers we get is 6*6=36
(a) both are prime numbers
prime numbers in a dice are 2,3,5
so, the probability = 3/36=1/12
(b)their sum is a prime number
when 2 dice are thrown possibility of getting their sum to be a prime number is
(1,1)
(1,2) (2,1)
(1,4) (4,1) (2,3) (3,2)
So events of getting their sum to be a prime number=7
Therefore the probability = 7/36
