You can put this solution on YOUR website! The incomes of Ram and shyam are in the ratio 4:3 and their expenditure are in the ratio 3:2.
If each person saves 2500 , what are their incomes ?
:
let x = the income multiplier
then
4x = Ram's income
and
3x = Sam's income
:
let y = the expenditure multiplier
then
3y = Ram's exp
and
2y = Sam's exp
:
Write an equation for each man
4x - 3y = 2500
and
3x - 2y = 2500
:
Use elimination here, mult the 1st equation by 2, the 2nd equation by 3
Then subtract the 1st equation from the 2nd
9x - 6y = 7500
8x - 6y = 5000
---------------Subtraction eliminates y, find x
x = 2500 is the income multiplier
therefore
4(2500) = $10000 is Ram's income
3(2500) = $7500 is Sam's income
:
:
See if this checks out, find the exp multiplier using the 2nd equation
7500 - 2y = 2500
-2y = 2500 - 7500
-2y = -5000
y = +2500 is the ex income multiplier also
:
Check this out in the 1st equation
10000 - 2(2500) = 2500
