The question is asking integral of (sinx)/(cosx).
I know how to do this if I choose u=cosx and du=-sinx, or and I know I can aslo chnage the orignal problem to tan x,
But I wanted to do it using u=sinx and du=cosx so that we have the integral of u/du
but for some reason when I do this I get the wrong answer. ((cosx)^2)/2 is not the correct answer.

You've got it backwards.
How about u=cos%28x%29?
Then,
du=-sin%28x%29dx
sin%28x%29dx=-du
So then substituting,
int%28%28sin%28x%29%2Fcos%28x%29%29%2Cdx%29=int%28%28-1%2Fu%29%2Cdu%29
Take it from there and finish.
