48 minutes = 48/60 = 0.8 hours, so 1 hour 48 minutes = 1.8 hours.

Make this chart:


             Distance  |  Rate   |  Time
Going     |     x      |   20    |  x/20
Returning |     x      |   25    |  x/25
Total     |            |         |   1.8

x/20 + x/25 = 1.8

Multiply through by lcd = 100

    5x + 4x = 180
         9x = 180
          x = 20 miles each way
