John can mow a lawn in 2 hours
In 1 hour he can mow 1/2 of the lawn.
Peter can mow the same lawn in 3 hours.
In 1 hour he can mow 1/3rd of the lawn.
In 1 hour they can together mow (1/2+1/3)=5/6th of the lawn.
Together they can mow the lawn in 6/5 hours=1.2 hours.
