You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let  x  be the distance Maria drove in one  (in each)  direction.
Then she spent  x%2F70  hours in the morning and  x%2F60  in the afternoon.  According to the condition,  you have an equation
x%2F60 - x%2F70 = 1%2F4.

To solve it,  multiply both sides by 60.70 = 4200.  You will get

70*x - 60*x = 4200%2F4 = 1050, or
10*x = 1050.

Hence,  x  = 105 miles.

Answer. The distance is  105 miles

let x=distance to appointment
travel time=distance/speed
x/60-x/70=1/4
4x/60-4x/70=1
lcd:60*70=4200
280x-240x=4200
40x=4200
x=105
