Question 964090: A 40-ft tower is located on the edge of a river. The angle of elevation between the opposite bank and the top of the tower is 32°. How wide is the river? Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The tower is 40 feet. This is the side opposite an angle of 32 degrees.
So the tangent of 32 degress = 40/adjacent . The adjacent side is the
distance across the river.
tan(32) = 0.62487
so tan(32) = 40/adjacent
tan(32)*adjacent = 40
adjacent = 40/tan(32)
adjacent = 64.013 feet wide
