Question 964029: Abdul invested his savings in two investment funds. The $12,000 that he invested in Fund A returned a 6%
profit. The amount that he invested in Fund B returned a 1% profit. How much did he invest in Fund B, if both funds together returned a 4% profit?
Solution::
The amount Abdul invested in fund A =$12,000
Return =6% of 12,000
. = 6/100*12,000
=$720
Let the amount invested infund B =x
Return= 1% of x
= x/100
Given that both funds together
return a 4% profit
720+x/100= 4%of(12,000+x)
(72000+x)/100 =4/100 *(12000+x)
72000+x = 48000+4*x
3*x = 24000
x = $8,000
invested in fund B= 8,000

let x=amt invested in Fund B
(6%*12000+1%x)/(12000+x)=.04
720+.01x=.04(12000+x)
720+.01x=480+.04x
.03x=240
x=8000
How much did he invest in Fund B? $8,000
