2*|3x-1| +1 < 5


2*|3x-1| +1-1 < 5-1 ... Subtract 1 from both sides.


2*|3x-1| < 4


2*|3x-1|/2 < 4/2 ... Divide both sides by 2.


|3x-1| < 2


-2 < 3x-1 < 2


-2+1 < 3x-1+1 < 2+1 ... Add 1 to all sides.


-1 < 3x < 3


-1/3 < 3x/3 < 3/3 ... Divide all sides by 3


-1/3 < x < 1


So the final answer is -1/3 < x < 1
