Question 962421: Is ( 3, -1) a solution to the following system of equations? Be sure
to show why or why not. There is only one answer to this question.
x + 9y = -6
4x - 2y = 10
Answer by rothauserc(4718) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x + 9y = -6
4x - 2y = 10
In order for (3, -1) to be the solution, it must satisfy both equations
*****************
x + 9y = -6
3 + 9(-1) = -6
3 -9 = -6
-6 = -6
*****************
4x - 2y = 10
4(3) - 2(-1) = 10
12 +2 = 10
14 does not = 10
******************
therefore (3, -1) is not a solution since it does not satisfy the second equation
