You can
put this solution on YOUR website!
let x = smaller
let x +2 = larger
the sum of larger and 3 times the smaller
(x+2+3)(x) = 234
x+5(x) = 234
(x^2 + 5x) = 234
x^2 + 5x - 234 = 0
x= (-5 +- sqrt(5^2 - 4(1)(-234)))/(2(1))
x = -5+- sqrt(25 + 936)/2
answer/solution:
x = -18 smaller
x = -16 larger
