Question 96075: can you please help me with this problem because i keep getting stuck on it and i can't move to the next problem because they are all the same
PROBLEM: USE THE PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM TO FIND THE VALUE OF X. ROUND ANSWERS TO THE NEAREST TENTH. A= X, B=22, AND C =37 THESE ARE THE SIDES SO THE PROBLEM WILL LOOK LIKE THIS A SQUARED + B SQUARED = C SQUARED
showing my work this is where i got so far on the problem
x squared + 22 squared = 37 squared
x squared + 484 = 1369
-484 -484 from both sides
x squared= 896
x=square root 896
x=29.933259
but what i dont understand is when they say round answers to the nearest tenth

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 29.933259
the .9 is the tenth position.
rounding this position requires looking at the digit to the right of this position which is (3).
now if this digit (3) s 4 or less you leave the rounding position as is and zero out all digits to the right.
29.900000 or 29.9 is the answer rounded to the nearest tenth.
--------------------------------------------
if the digit to the right of the .9 were a 5,6,7,8,or 9 then you'd have to add .1 to the .9 and zero out all digits to the right. thus:
29.9+.1=30.
